About the position

The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking experienced print journalists to transition into broadcast and video-driven storytelling through the Scripps Journalism Journey Initiative. This program offers extensive training, coaching, and support, placing journalists in local newsrooms to develop their skills in multimedia journalism. Participants will engage in various roles, including investigative reporting, editing, and digital content creation, while receiving mentorship and opportunities for professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Assume a full-time journalism position reporting to a Scripps local newsroom with training.
  • Participate in group training sessions, journalism conferences, and workshops.
  • Utilize ongoing practice, feedback, and coaching to enhance video-driven storytelling skills.
  • Engage in the editorial process, producing news stories, newscasts, and digital content.
  • Create audience-directed content for multimedia platforms and social media.
  • Provide mentoring for peers and future members of the Journalism Journey Initiative.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience as a print journalist or in a related position.
  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • A successful track record in journalism, including beat writing, investigative journalism, or news leadership.
