About the position

The News Journalist position at Storyful involves working at the intersection of social media, news, and technology to help media organizations tell compelling stories. The role requires finding and producing original reporting using advanced verification techniques, while serving a diverse set of media clients in a fast-paced, video-led environment. The journalist will be responsible for monitoring news feeds, gathering user-generated content, writing accurate copy, and collaborating with colleagues and clients.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring Storyful's news feeds for emerging stories and undertaking advanced searches using proprietary tools to discover original, eyewitness content
• Gathering and verifying user-generated images, posts, videos and other content from the social web
• Writing clean, concise and accurate copy for publication on the Storyful Newswire and social platforms
• Contacting uploaders and sources involved in stories
• Working closely with newsroom clients and content creators
• Working to deadlines and targets
• Flexibility to work various shifts as needed, including weekends and unsociable hours
• Actively pitch and develop unique stories that are on brand for Storyful
• Understanding stories that work for Storyful's clients
• Collaborate with colleagues and other teams on stories
• Conduct interviews over the phone

Requirements

• Experience in journalism, particularly online or broadcast journalism
• A self-starting journalist who is plugged into current events around the world
• A fluid, natural communicator with experience writing and editing copy for publication
• Expert understanding of social media platforms such as X, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, 4chan, Telegram, etc.
• Experience with verification and open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques
• Ability to source and verify original content from across the social web
• Excellent computer skills, including basic knowledge of spreadsheets and publishing within content management systems
