About the position

The Journalist at BBC is responsible for creating original multimedia stories that align with the BBC Mundo strategy. This role involves researching, reporting, and editing content for various platforms, while maintaining high standards of accuracy and impartiality. The journalist will also engage with audiences through social media and ensure compliance with editorial principles and legal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Propose original ideas regularly on any topic according to BBC Mundo strategy.
  • Research, report, write and/or edit original multimedia stories.
  • Create posts and engage on social media, and produce the social media content.
  • Write stories using agency material or rewrite standard recounts of public information by gathering facts from various media sources.
  • Report, write, research, and translate stories for the website BBCMundo.com and all its platforms.
  • Maintain the standards of accuracy, impartiality, and fair dealing stated in the BBC's Producers guidelines.
  • Ensure that all stories are properly illustrated with images, audio, video, or interactivity as appropriate.
  • Provide a moving story, amending and updating material as required.
  • Refresh a story as needed.
  • Think through and around editorial problems; develop realistic alternative strategies and approaches.
  • Conduct interviews either in the studio or on location, live or pre-recorded.
  • Monitor traffic on the website and its social media platforms, and make informed decisions based on an understanding of user requirements.
  • Ensure that BBC Editorial principles and all relevant legal, contractual, and copyright requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree or higher, or foreign equivalent in Journalism, Communication, Education, or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience in the position offered, as a Producer, Reporter, Correspondent, Editor, or related position developing news for Europe and/or Latin America.
  • 2 years of experience with a full command and up-to-date knowledge of Spanish as first (or equivalent) language.
  • Excellent written Spanish and an ability to use language to tell a story effectively.
  • Experience of reporting, in the field, on international and/or Spanish-speaking political and economic issues.
  • Up-to-date familiarity with international history, politics, social issues, and culture.
  • Spanish proficiency test required.
