About the position

The Journeyman Communications Specialist Technical Editor position at Leidos is a critical role within the National Security Sector, aimed at supporting an Intelligence Community (IC) program in McLean, VA. This position requires an Active TS/SCI with polygraph security clearance and involves a variety of responsibilities centered around technical editing and communication support. The successful candidate will lead the development, preparation, production, coordination, and editing of a range of products, including finished intelligence products, strategy and planning documents, talking points, and speeches. The role demands a high level of collaboration with government staff and subject matter experts to ensure that all communication materials are accurate, consistent, and meet the required standards. In this position, the candidate will be responsible for mentoring and training junior staff, utilizing tools such as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite to create compelling content, and employing request management tools like NarQuest to provide swift, high-quality customer support for communications requests. The role also includes researching, proofreading, editing, creating, writing, processing, revising, formatting, and coordinating the composition of products for both hardcopy and electronic publication. The candidate will ensure that all documentation and editing support checks for accuracy and consistency in organization, style, readability, and accessibility based on the medium used. The Journeyman Communications Specialist will draft and edit a variety of communication materials, including talking points, speeches, quotes, leadership communications, marketing copy, newsletter content, and website content. The candidate will serve as the primary author on various communications products and will be responsible for initiating, planning, executing, and reporting on tasks independently. Additionally, the role involves preparing and editing speeches or scripts for senior executives, ensuring that all products are consistent with tradecraft and publication standards, and advising leadership on the presentation and delivery of speeches. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about communication and have a strong background in technical editing and content creation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead communication support for the ODNI, including the development, preparation, production, coordination, and editing of various products.
  • Prepare assignments based on input from subject matter experts.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Cloud suite to create compelling content.
  • Provide swift, high-quality customer support for communications requests using NarQuest.
  • Research, proofread, edit, create, write, process, revise, format, and coordinate the composition of products for hardcopy and electronic publication.
  • Ensure documentation and editing support checks for accuracy and consistency in organization, style, readability, and accessibility.
  • Draft and edit a variety of communication materials, including talking points, speeches, quotes, and leadership communications.
  • Serve as the primary author on fact sheets, pamphlets, website content, and other communications products.
  • Initiate, plan, execute, and report on tasks independently.
  • Prepare and edit speeches or scripts for senior executives for live or recorded delivery.
  • Rewrite submissions to ensure a consistent sense of style, grammar, and flow.
  • Convey complex information in a clear and simple manner.
  • Advise and coach leadership on the presentation and delivery of speeches.

Requirements

  • BA degree and 4 - 8 years of prior relevant experience or a Master's degree with 2 - 6 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, collaboration tools such as MS Teams and SharePoint, and Adobe Creative Suite.
