About the position

The Journeyman Electrician at EMCOR Group is responsible for planning and executing electrical installations and modifications in compliance with specifications and local electrical codes. This role involves a variety of tasks including the installation of wiring, equipment, and electrical systems, ensuring safety and functionality through testing and adjustments. The position requires a strong understanding of electrical systems and the ability to work independently while adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste and ensure compliance with specifications and local electrical codes.
• Prepare sketches showing the location of wiring and equipment or follow diagrams or blueprints.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using appropriate tools.
• Pull wiring through conduit, assisted by a Helper.
• Splice wires by stripping insulation, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
• Connect wiring to lighting fixtures, power equipment, and control instruments using hand tools.
• Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
• Connect power cables to equipment and install ground leads.
• Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety using testing instruments.
• Observe functioning of installed equipment to determine hazards and need for adjustments or repairs.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
• Must have own hand tools and transportation to job sites.
• Must comply with safety standards and consent to drug and alcohol testing.
• Ability to perform precise measurements and work within standards of accuracy.
• Physical ability to climb, balance, and work in small spaces.

Nice-to-haves

• Valid Texas driver's license preferred, but a State or Government issued ID is acceptable.
