Journeyman Electrician

About the position

The Journeyman Electrician at South Dakota State University is responsible for performing a variety of electrical work, including maintenance and repair of electrical systems, lights, elevators, and fire alarm systems. The role requires adherence to the National Electric Code standards and involves working in diverse environments, including outdoor and indoor settings. The position is essential for ensuring the safety and functionality of electrical systems on the SDSU campus and at agricultural experiment stations.

Responsibilities

• Perform varied electrical work including maintenance and repair of electrical systems, lights, elevators, and fire alarm systems.
• Trench/excavate and install underground wiring.
• Install conduit and wiring for outdoor and indoor systems.
• Perform general building maintenance and construction.
• Ensure work is in accordance with the National Electric Code standards.
• Work on special equipment as required.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• South Dakota electrical journeyman license.
• Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
• Experience in electrical construction and maintenance.
• Ability to perform electrical repairs and troubleshoot electrical systems.
• Skill in reading and understanding construction and electrical drawings.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and critical thinking.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a variety of environments and weather conditions.
