About the position

The Journeyman HVAC Technician with VRF/VRV Specialty is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, with a focus on VRF/VRV technology. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and ensure compliance with relevant codes. The technician will work both independently and as part of a team, coordinating with other trades and maintaining effective communication with customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Master all job duties and responsibilities of the Journeyman Mechanical HVAC Technician or equivalent experience.
  • Supervise, oversee code compliance, plan, and layout for the installation of equipment and piping systems for Plumbing, Mechanical, and HVAC systems.
  • Read and interpret mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and control drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Perform necessary math calculations to properly size mechanical and plumbing piping as per code requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of mechanical refrigeration, hot water, chilled water, VRF/VRV, split system air conditioning, and packaged rooftop equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, install, repair, or replace refrigeration, hot water, chilled water, VRF/VRV, split system air conditioning, and packaged rooftop equipment.
  • Correct piping, connections, and terminations on equipment as required, and test equipment, parts, and systems.
  • Perform preventative and general maintenance and testing of HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate with other trades on jobsites and maintain workflow schedules to meet productivity objectives.
  • Communicate clearly with customers, fellow technicians, support staff, and supervisory personnel.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC codes.
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office Software and proficiency with computers, iPads, and handheld devices.
  • Desire and ability to learn how to use and interpret plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC diagnostic and service equipment.
  • Ability to work in diverse conditions, including mechanical equipment rooms, rooftops, crawlspaces, and attics.
  • Physical ability to perform regular lifting and moving of equipment, including up to 50lbs frequently and more than 50lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to work from ladders or man lifts as required.
  • Good work ethic and desire to advance professionally and personally.
  • Demonstrate good customer service skills, communication skills, mechanical aptitude, and common-sense judgment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with VRF/VRV systems is preferred.
  • Willingness to continue education through available company and industry training.
