About the position

Cherokee Nation Strategic Programs (CNSP) is seeking a skilled Journeyman Interior Designer with extensive experience in facility interior design. This role focuses on leading the interior design of Department of Defense (DoD) facilities, ensuring compliance with design standards, accessibility guidelines, and DoD criteria. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing technical specifications, construction documents, and ensuring adherence to relevant building codes. The position requires a proactive approach to design, with an emphasis on collaboration with various stakeholders to align design work with the mission and goals of the Air Force or Space Force installations. As a Journeyman Interior Designer, you will be responsible for performing reviews, development, updates, and coordination of various design criteria and guidelines, including Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), and Department of the Air Force Instructions. You will lead the interior design of DoD facilities, ensuring that all projects meet the necessary standards and guidelines. This includes developing Scope of Work (SOW) and funding documents for interior design projects, as well as creating technical specifications and construction documents for Air Force or Space Force installations. In this role, you will provide expert guidance on the application of building codes, interior design, and accessibility standards. You will also be required to travel to various Air Force bases, both within the continental United States (CONUS) and outside (OCONUS), to oversee and ensure the successful implementation of design projects. The position may involve other job-related duties as assigned, requiring flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the interior design of DoD facilities, ensuring compliance with design standards and accessibility guidelines.
  • Develop Scope of Work (SOW) and funding documents for interior design projects.
  • Create technical specifications, interior design, and construction documents for Air Force or Space Force installations.
  • Ensure adherence to building codes and DoD interior design criteria.
  • Provide expert guidance on the application of building codes, interior design, and accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that all design work aligns with the mission and goals of the Air Force or Space Force installations.
  • Perform reviews, development, update, and coordination of various design criteria and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience performing facility interior design.
  • Accredited Associate's degree or higher in an interior design program accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) or equivalent.
  • NCIDQ certification or state licensure, certification, or registration is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the application of building codes, interior design, and accessibility standards, as well as DoD criteria governing interior design and construction.
  • Demonstrated interior design expertise for criteria development and review including Engineering Technical Letters, Unified Facilities Criteria, and Department of the Air Force Instructions.
