About the position

The Journeyman Plumber position at Action Facilities Management requires an active Top Secret Clearance and a Journeyman Plumber license in Maryland, Virginia, or DC. The role involves performing plumbing trades functions necessary for the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures, equipment, and systems within a commercial facility. The plumber will handle both preventative and reactive maintenance tasks related to plumbing infrastructure, ensuring compliance with plumbing codes and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Studies building plans and drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
  • Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
  • Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob.
  • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Cuts and threads pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine.
  • Bends pipe to required angle.
  • Works from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications.
  • Unloads and carries materials to the jobsite.
  • Assists with the installation of pipe and fittings for copper, cast iron, and PVC/CPVC pipes, and for drain, sewer, and gas lines.
  • Utilizes hand tools and cutters to cut pipe to desired lengths and electric and hand threaders to thread pipe.
  • Installs fittings and components above and inground.
  • Locates and diagnoses trouble in the plumbing systems or equipment.
  • Documents actions, testing results, observations, final diagnosis of the situation and steps taken to resolve issues for each job or situation.
  • Repairs plumbing issues by replacing or installing components.
  • Determines the steps necessary to assess an electrical situation using testing devices, blueprints and maps.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA safety requirements and reporting violations of policies, procedures and guidelines to immediate supervisor.
  • Answers emergency calls quickly, assesses the safety of the situation upon first arriving at the scene and provides directions to individuals affected.
  • Maintains equipment to ensure it is in good condition and can operate or be used safely; reports any issues to immediate supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Top Secret Security Clearance
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 5 years progressive experience as a plumber in a commercial facility
  • Knowledge of water distribution systems, drains, plumbing systems, sprinkler systems, etc.
  • Journeyman Plumbers License in VA, MD, or DC
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of coworkers and government stakeholders
  • Knowledge of computers and basic computer applications
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to effectively complete tasks in a team setting or independently
  • Ability to effectively utilize resources to maximize productivity
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
