About the position
The Journeyman Plumber at Polk Mechanical Company is responsible for the installation, modification, and repair of various plumbing systems and fixtures. This role is crucial in ensuring the functionality and safety of utility, supply, and disposal systems in commercial settings, including hospitals and other buildings. The position offers an opportunity to be part of a growing team that values customer service and employee development.
Responsibilities
- Install, modify, and repair utility, supply, and disposal systems, fixtures, fittings, and equipment.
- Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems.
- Read blueprints and lay out plumbing systems for underground rough and top-out phases.
- Install DWV (Drain, Waste and Vent) systems and domestic water piping (hot & cold systems).
- Install natural gas systems and medical gas systems (vacuum, O2, Medical Air, nitrogen).
- Solder and braze copper tubing, thread steel pipe, and use ProPress as needed.
- Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
- Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings using hand and power tools.
- Install underground storm, sanitary, and water piping systems.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in a commercial plumbing environment.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program.
- Hold a State license or be qualified to sit for the exam in Texas immediately.
- Prior experience in HVAC/Mechanical in a commercial capacity.
- Ability to read blueprints and layout plumbing systems.
- Understanding of plumbing codes in different jurisdictions.
- Enjoys a fast-paced environment and is able to meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and punctuality.
