About the position

The position involves actively caring for, promoting, managing, and advocating safety at Western States. It is critical to ensure that all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures, and standards. The role requires the ability to complete Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's) prior to any job-related tasks according to WSECO's policy and standards, maintaining clean and clutter-free personal work areas, and adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and perform with limited to no assistance all welding processes to repair and fabricate equipment, including Stick, MIG, TIG, Dual Shield/Flux Core Wire, Sub arc, and tin ware repair welding.
  • Determine appropriate welding process based on repair type.
  • Set up equipment properly according to the function and application.
  • Understand properties of various types of steel and other welding metals and determine the best type for the repair.
  • Perform advanced-level fabrication, including line-boring and straightening.
  • Complete layout from prints and drawings; create prints or patterns in absence of prints.
  • Advise and mentor Welding Technicians Levels I - II.
  • Direct others on a limited basis as required in the absence of Lead Technician.
  • Handle all public and internal inquiries in a prompt and friendly manner.
  • Adhere to all customer care standards.
  • Actively care and advocate safety at Western States.
  • Accomplish training and serve as a team member in support of Western States' strategic programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Work within and promote corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Advanced-level proficiency in all welding processes and fabrication.
  • Ability to read blueprints required.
  • Ability to fabricate without prints.
  • Ability to attain certification in all welding processes required; AWS certification preferred.
  • Understanding of the metric system.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Consistent attendance and timeliness.
  • Ability to work overtime with little or no notice.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate Degree from an accredited vocational school preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of CAT equipment preferred.
  • Line boring experience preferred.
