About the position

The Software Developer 4 position at Compa Industries Inc. is a pivotal role within the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) as part of a transformative initiative aimed at modernizing software delivery through the adoption of cloud platforms and DevSecOps practices. The Platform Team, which this position is a part of, is tasked with providing software delivery as a service to developers across the institution. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the platforms and modernizing enterprise software delivery, leveraging zero trust principles to enhance security and efficiency in software development processes. This role requires a trailblazing engineer with a strong background in DevOps and/or Platform Engineering. The primary objective is to lead or contribute to the transformation of software delivery to the cloud, ensuring that best practices in security and infrastructure management are adhered to. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in administering and managing Linux systems at scale, with a deep understanding of networking design, implementation, and operations. Proficiency in authentication and authorization technologies, as well as various infrastructure methodologies, is essential for success in this role. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, along with at least 12 years of related experience. Key qualifications include expertise in programming languages such as Python or Go, familiarity with Agile and LEAN principles, and a solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle. Experience with CI/CD processes, managing infrastructure at scale, and working within high-security environments such as FedRAMP High or PCI is also required. The position offers the potential for remote work, with the understanding that periodic onsite reporting may be necessary. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the platforms and modernize enterprise software delivery across LANL using zero trust principles.
  • Administer and manage Linux systems at scale.
  • Design, implement, and operate networking solutions.
  • Implement authentication and authorization technologies.
  • Manage infrastructure methodologies including security and name services.
  • Lead or participate in DevOps transformation initiatives to the cloud or platform engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • 12 years of related experience in software development and engineering.
  • Expertise in Python or Go programming languages.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and LEAN principles and practices.
  • Experience with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Proficient in CI/CD and Continuous Delivery processes.
  • Experience managing infrastructure at scale, particularly within Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Deep understanding of OWASP principles and practices.
  • Experience working in high-security environments such as FedRAMP High, PCI, HIPAA, or Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Familiarity with metrics, monitoring, and observability tools.
  • Awareness of Cloud Native Computing Foundation projects and principles.
  • Experience with GitLab and Terraform.

Nice-to-haves
