About the position

The Junior Accountant will assist in the financial operations of the Ecorse Public Schools district, focusing on accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with state and federal regulations. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals passionate about supporting public education and possessing strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Help maintain accurate and organized financial records.
  • Process invoices, expense reports, and payments in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Support financial analysis to identify trends and variances.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
  • Enter financial data into accounting software accurately.
  • Maintain and update financial databases and spreadsheets.
  • Provide support to the finance team and collaborate with other departments as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff and vendors regarding financial matters.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Business Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance (internships included).
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, MUNIS).
