About the position

The Jr. Comms Engineer will be responsible for constructing communication pathways between the Remote Broadcast Center (RBC) in Seattle and various remote production sites globally. This role involves configuring comms panels, maintaining production and technical comms infrastructures, and ensuring high-quality visual presentations during live broadcasts. The ideal candidate should be a clear communicator, adaptable to changes, and able to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the production and technical comms infrastructures within the RBC.
  • Refine next day workflows from team and Producer/Director feedback.
  • Load and prep for next day's broadcast.
  • Create post show documentation highlighting any tasks or issues from Audio.
  • Update and maintain all SOPs and contribute to new SOPs and the sharing of business/skill knowledge.
  • Solve highly complex and diverse comm system problems.
  • Maintain control, efficiency, and visibility over technology and serve as a point of escalation for the on-site team.
  • Monitor and manage on-premise and cloud resources.
  • Coordinate production activities with other technical Centers.
  • Work with audio, engineering, and IT teams to enhance intercom services and quality of service metrics.
  • Provide comfort support breaks to Audio colleagues during live event mixing.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of AoIP, SMPTE 2110 and AES67.
  • Experience with Calrec and Riedel systems.
  • Basic knowledge of network engineering, focusing on AoIP systems.
  • Minimum of three years experience in an operational and broadcast audio/engineering-based role.
  • Understanding of structured cable systems and cable patching and routing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills for clear communication in spoken and written forms.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Logical thinking with good problem-solving and fault-finding skills in diverse systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a live environment and within programme requirements.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and overnight.

  • Bachelor's degree, technical degree, or deep hands-on experience in an applicable field.
