About the position

The Jr Database Admin position at Diligent Consulting Inc involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities centered around the installation, configuration, and management of various database systems. The successful candidate will work with databases such as Sybase ASE & Replication, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. A key aspect of this role is to monitor and optimize database performance using advanced tools like AWR, ADDM, Explain Plan, and SQL Trace. The candidate will also be responsible for developing and implementing robust database backup and recovery strategies, ensuring that data is secure and recoverable in case of any failures. In addition to performance monitoring, the role includes performing database migrations, upgrades, and patch management to keep systems up to date and secure. Automation of routine database administration tasks through shell scripting is also a critical responsibility, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing manual workload. The candidate will collaborate closely with development teams to optimize database queries and design, ensuring that applications run smoothly and efficiently. The position also requires managing cloud-based database services on AWS, including RDS, EC2, S3, and Redshift. The candidate will utilize various database management tools such as DBArtisan, SQL Server Management Studio, pgAdmin, and MongoDB Compass to perform their duties effectively. Troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues promptly is essential, as is providing technical support and guidance to other team members as needed. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in database administration and a passion for optimizing database performance and security.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and manage database systems including Sybase ASE & Replication, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance using tools such as AWR, ADDM, Explain Plan, and SQL Trace.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in Database Administration.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in operating systems including UNIX (AIX, Solaris), Linux, and Windows.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS (RDS, EC2, S3, Redshift).
  • Strong knowledge of database management tools and utilities: DBArtisan, SQL Server Management Studio, pgAdmin, and MongoDB Compass.
  • Expertise in performance tuning and optimization using AWR, ADDM, Explain Plan, and SQL Trace.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting for automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience supporting federal government contracts.
  • Relevant certifications in database administration or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, Oracle Certified Professional).
