About the position

Parsons is seeking a Junior Database Administrator-Intern to engage with cloud technologies on AWS and Azure database platforms. This role involves maintaining database documentation, performing routine maintenance tasks, implementing security measures, and collaborating with senior DBAs and IT staff to support database needs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain documentation of database configurations, procedures, and policies.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, and updates.
• Implement and maintain database security measures.
• Control access permissions and privileges.
• Work with senior DBAs, developers, and other IT staff to support database needs.

Requirements

• Understanding of popular DBMS such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, etc.
• Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Basic understanding of database security practices, including user permissions and encryption.
• Basic knowledge of operating systems, particularly those commonly used for database servers (e.g., Linux, Windows Server).
• Familiarity with database management tools and utilities (e.g., pgAdmin, SQL Server Management Studio).
• In pursuit of a bachelor's degree in communications, human resources, hospitality management, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

• Basic scripting skills (e.g., Shell, Python, PowerShell) to automate routine tasks.
• Basic understanding of networking concepts as they relate to database connectivity and security.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve database issues.
