Parsons is seeking a talented Junior Database Administrator to join our dynamic team. As a Junior Database Administrator, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and security of our databases while supporting various IT initiatives. Your responsibilities will include maintaining comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and policies, ensuring that all processes are well-documented and easily accessible for future reference. You will perform routine maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, and updates to ensure optimal database performance. Implementing and maintaining robust database security measures will be a key aspect of your role, as you will control access permissions and privileges to safeguard sensitive data. Collaboration is essential in this position; you will work closely with senior DBAs, developers, and other IT staff to support the database needs of the organization, ensuring that all systems run smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities

  • Maintain documentation of database configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, and updates.
  • Implement and maintain database security measures.
  • Control access permissions and privileges.
  • Work with senior DBAs, developers, and other IT staff to support database needs.

Requirements

  • Understanding of popular DBMS such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, etc.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Basic understanding of database security practices, including user permissions and encryption.
  • Basic knowledge of operating systems, particularly those commonly used for database servers (e.g., Linux, Windows Server).
  • Familiarity with database management tools and utilities (e.g., pgAdmin, SQL Server Management Studio).

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic scripting skills (e.g., Shell, Python, PowerShell) to automate routine tasks.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts as they relate to database connectivity and security.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve database issues.
