About the position

The Jr Database Administrator is responsible for providing database support, ensuring the reliable and efficient performance of databases associated with network tools and solutions. This role involves routine operations and maintenance, preventive and corrective maintenance, and incident management measures to maintain database integrity and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Verify databases associated with network tools and solutions function as required.
  • Participate in routine operations and maintenance of databases.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and incident management measures.
  • Execute regular system administrative activities, including system reboot, backup, recovery, archiving, and restoration.
  • Monitor and tune databases to ensure peak performance.
  • Check database log files backup status and system hardware resources such as space, CPU, and memory.
  • Implement backup and recovery solutions.
  • Run database tests and tune database performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide routine system maintenance support during system disruptions mandated by upgrades or patches.
  • Support installation of operating systems, databases, applications, development upgrades, and new releases.
  • Execute needed upgrades to software applications and maintain necessary licensing.
  • Adhere to established standards, controls, and procedures to ensure data integrity and security.
  • Use various databases and sources to ensure systems are not vulnerable to security attacks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study.
  • 1-2 years of related work experience.
  • Candidates must be located in the greater DC area and willing to go on-site to customer site in DC as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with DoD and Federal Government is a plus.
  • Knowledge of security network and infrastructure tools, including access control and/or encryption.
  • Knowledge of the software/system development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience with DBA productivity and performance tools.
