About the position

As a Jr. DevOps Engineer at Comcast, you will be part of a dynamic and innovative team that is dedicated to enhancing the digital media and entertainment experience for our customers. This role is pivotal in the VIPER organization, where you will work on the VIPER Packager, a crucial component for IP Video delivery, which includes services such as Linear, VOD, cDVR, and EAS. Your primary responsibility will be to package MPEG for delivery in HLS or MPEG-DASH formats while applying various DRM encryptions like Widevine, PlayReady, or Fairplay. You will collaborate closely with the Linear Deployment Engineering team, Content Security, and CDN teams to ensure the quality and reliability of our IP Video services in production. In this position, you will develop and utilize tools and infrastructure to assure high-performance service delivery of our core IP Video platform. You will be expected to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support our operations team, manage services using Puppet and Helm, and develop utilities to streamline operations and improve resiliency. Your role will also involve configuring and developing monitoring mechanisms and telemetry tools, working on projects to deliver new features to our customers, and assisting in capacity management activities. Documentation of projects, operational procedures, and processes will be a key part of your responsibilities, along with reviewing, writing, and editing code to determine integration needs. You will be part of a collaborative and fast-paced environment where continuous learning and improvement are encouraged. Responsibilities

  • Be a member of a 24x7 on-call rotation to provide support to our operations team.
  • Manage services with Puppet and Helm.
  • Develop tools and utilities to streamline operations and improve resiliency.
  • Run, configure, and develop monitoring mechanisms and telemetry tools.
  • Work on projects to deliver new features to our customers.
  • Assist in capacity management activities.
  • Document projects, operational procedures, and processes.
  • Review, write, and edit code; conduct analysis to determine integration needs.
  • Research, write, and edit documentation and technical requirements, including software design evaluation plans, test results, and technical manuals.
  • Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products; review literature, patents, and current practices relevant to assigned projects.
  • Work with the Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specifications and technical requirements.
  • Apply full use and application of engineering methodologies related to area of engineering specialty.
  • Display knowledge of engineering concepts and skills and their application in the specified engineering specialty.
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance; must be able to work nights, weekends, variable schedules, and overtime as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience in a DevOps or engineering role.
  • Familiarity with Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Puppet and Helm for service management.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Go and Python.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with IP Video technologies.
  • Familiarity with HLS, DASH, and MPEG formats.
  • Knowledge of DRM technologies including PlayReady, Widevine, and FairPlay.
  • Understanding of Content Delivery Networks (CDN).
