About the position

The Junior Linux (RHEL) Systems Administrator will be responsible for day-to-day system administration tasks, troubleshooting system issues, and assisting with system upgrades and migrations within a hybrid remote work environment. This role requires a motivated individual with an active DoD Secret clearance and the ability to work onsite one day a week in Annapolis Junction, MD.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain RHEL servers
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls
• Monitor system performance and resource utilization
• Perform routine system maintenance tasks, such as patching and security updates
• Diagnose and resolve system and application issues
• Troubleshoot network connectivity problems
• Identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities
• Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures
• Restore systems from backups as needed
• Write and maintain shell scripts to automate tasks
• Create and maintain clear and concise documentation for system configurations and procedures

Requirements

• Active DoD Secret clearance
• 7 years overall IT and Linux systems administration experience
• Experience with RHEL or CentOS
• Basic knowledge of networking concepts
• Ability to troubleshoot system issues
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM)
• Knowledge of system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix)
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet)
• Certifications in Linux administration (e.g., RHCSA, RHCSA)
