About the position

The Jr Product Engineer/Drafter plays a crucial role in collaborating with various departments including Corporate Purchasing, Engineering Leadership, Operations, and Product Management. This position is focused on scoping, recommending, and implementing changes through Cabinetworks Group Operations. The product engineer is tasked with creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), driving process improvements, providing training for the department, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. Additionally, the role involves special project work as required, ensuring that the engineer is adaptable and responsive to the needs of the organization. In this position, the engineer will participate in multi-functional teams that support New Product Development projects. This includes utilizing task and timeline management tools, conducting project status meetings, and documenting meeting minutes. The engineer will also be responsible for updating engineering drawings and specifications as necessary, ensuring that all documentation is current and accurate. Furthermore, the role requires the use of product engineering automation systems to develop CAD models, drawings, and bills of material for the maintenance of existing products. A key focus will be on improving processes within the Product Engineering area of responsibility, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the team. The ideal candidate will possess a technical certification in drafting and design, along with at least six months of intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CAD software. Experience with AutoCAD and/or 3D CAD Solidworks software is also essential. The ability to build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams is critical, as is the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills are necessary, along with strong verbal and written communication abilities to interact with internal customers. The candidate should demonstrate a high level of effectiveness, flexibility, independence, and initiative in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Corporate Purchasing, Engineering Leadership, Operations, and Product Management to scope and recommend changes.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and drive process improvements.
  • Provide training for the department and troubleshoot issues as required.
  • Participate in multi-functional teams for New Product Development projects.
  • Utilize task and timeline management tools for project management.
  • Conduct project status meetings and document meeting minutes.
  • Update engineering drawings and specifications as necessary.
  • Develop CAD models, drawings, and bills of material for existing product maintenance.
  • Work to improve processes within the Product Engineering area.

Requirements

  • Technical certification in drafting and design preferred.
  • At least 6 months of intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CAD software.
  • At least 6 months of experience with AutoCAD and/or 3D CAD Solidworks software.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task various and conflicting responsibilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior ERP experience.
