About the position

The Jr. Web Application Developer at Florida State University is responsible for assisting in the development of a web-based National Crime Information Center (NCIC) software package for Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs). This role involves developing and testing new features, integrating with Records Management Systems (RMS), and providing technical support to users. The developer will also ensure compliance with federal and state security policies and create training materials to streamline support processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of a web-based National Crime Information Center (NCIC) software package for Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs).
  • Develop and test new features for the software package.
  • Integrate with Records Management Systems (RMS) and peripherals.
  • Work with RMS vendors to integrate data into readable formats (e.g., XML, Base64, images).
  • Perform Unit and System Tests and document results.
  • Test software releases and ensure accuracy before automated updates.
  • Manage website and network infrastructure in compliance with FBI CJIS Security Policy.
  • Provide technical support to users of the NCIC software package.
  • Identify features needed by LEAs and categorize new feature requests.
  • Train LEA group administrators on using the online issue tracker.
  • Act as a consultant to agencies implementing ELVIS in their infrastructure.
  • Ensure LEAs maintain compliance with CJIS security policies.
  • Offer consulting and troubleshooting for agencies seeking compliance assistance.
  • Create training materials such as PowerPoints, CBT modules, and training videos.
  • Collaborate with state departments to meet data and security requirements.
  • Work with external application vendors to gather integration requirements and develop code.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field and two years of experience, or a high school diploma and six years of experience.
  • Experience with C# programming language.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with ASP.NET MVC framework.
  • Ability to create training materials and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Experience providing telephone support.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Information Technology preferred.
  • Experience making training materials.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues.
