About the position

Leidos is seeking a JRSS Network Operations Controller to support the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) at Scott Air Force Base, IL. This role is critical in transforming how the Department of Defense secures and protects its information networks through the deployment of Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS). The JRSS initiative aims to centralize network security into regional architectures, enhancing the security posture of military installations across the country. As a JRSS Network Operations Controller, you will be responsible for monitoring network events and managing incident tickets in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment. Your primary duties will include creating and updating tickets using Remedy, triaging and managing ticket queues, and providing real-time feedback and guidance on tickets of concern. You will also be tasked with incident correlation and fault analysis, proactively analyzing alarms, isolating root causes, and coordinating the correction of fault situations across the infrastructure. In addition to fault isolation and correction, you will support network and service restoration efforts, ensuring that services are restored to full operation in accordance with established Service Level Agreements (SLAs). You will document all reroutes and outages in the configuration management database (CMDB) and provide timely situational awareness to leadership and the impacted community. Your role will also involve training junior-level network controllers and providing technical advice to peers and customers to resolve complex issues. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of networking principles and the ability to work independently on projects that impact the DISN (Defense Information Systems Network).

Responsibilities

  • Create and update tickets utilizing Remedy.
  • Independently triage and manage ticket queue in respective technology, providing feedback and guidance for tickets of concern.
  • Monitor network events and element management failures in real-time on a 24x7x365 basis across several monitoring tools.
  • Proactively analyze alarms and provide detailed analyses leading to resolution of alarm conditions.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a centralized known error database containing defects, failures, causes, and repair actions.
  • Notify necessary points of contact based on essential or heightened awareness of networks, circuits, or location of incidents.
  • Support the fault isolation process, diagnosing and troubleshooting to isolate where the fault occurs.
  • Correct/replace faulty network elements, coordinating with other service providers as necessary.
  • Restore networks and service to full operation, coordinating with other service providers to track service restoration.
  • Document reroutes in the configuration management database (CMDB).
  • Provide 24/7/365 sustainment support for outages and degradation of services.
  • Provide timely situational awareness to leadership and the impacted community during incident discovery and ticket creation.
  • Record, assess, track, and monitor incident tickets escalated to operational infrastructure.
  • Assist in monitoring and training junior-level Network controllers within O&M.
  • Provide technical advice and insight to peers, leadership, and customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and 3-5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Must have DoD-8570 IAT Level 2 baseline certification (Security+ CE, or equivalent) at start date.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 operation environment.
  • Experience with alarm surveillance, fault management, LAN/WAN maintenance, and performance management.
  • Advanced knowledge in four or more of the following: routers, switches, crypto devices, routing, DSN/DRSN, Video Services, Promina, CISCO, Juniper, MSPP, DWDM, Optical Switching.
  • General understanding of network topologies, both transport and IP.
  • Currently possess an active Secret security clearance and be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
