About the position

The Judicial Administrative Assistant I provides legal and administrative office support to judges in a multi-judge district court. This role involves coordinating judicial processes, managing documentation, and ensuring the efficient operation of the court's administrative functions. The assistant will work independently after initial orientation, handling a variety of tasks that require attention to detail and adherence to legal procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Types, edits, and proofreads legal and court documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Composes letters and legal documents for review and approval by judges.
  • Reviews pleadings and correspondence for appropriate action.
  • Drafts orders for the judge's review and communicates with various stakeholders.
  • Arranges meetings and conferences, preparing agendas and materials.
  • Organizes incoming paperwork to ensure timely processing of information.
  • Assists with budget preparation and submits requisition information.
  • Maintains calendars of case statuses and schedules for the judge.
  • Screens and routes incoming calls and provides information as authorized.
  • May attend and record hearings electronically.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in business or clerical studies or a similar field.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible legal experience.
  • Experience in a legal setting is required and can substitute for the associate degree.
  • Experience as a high-level assistant is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Zoom for coordinating virtual hearings.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in work assignments.
