About the position

The Judiciary Clerk 3-Classified position in the Criminal Division of the New Jersey Courts involves providing specialized court support functions related to case processing and calendar management. The role requires attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality customer service to both internal and external stakeholders. The position may also involve clerking duties for Superior Court Judges across various divisions, contributing to the effective management of court operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform court clerking duties, including operating digital recording systems and maintaining accurate records of in-court activities.
  • Answer questions posed by judges, the public, clients, customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Provide excellent customer service to external and internal customers in person, over the phone, and via written communication.
  • Compile and enter data in computer systems; verify records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Schedule and coordinate conferences, hearings, trials, and other court events.
  • Review court documents and incoming cases for completeness; enter and update data on judiciary information systems.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in an office environment performing clerical and support services, including keyboarding.
  • Ability to demonstrate keyboarding skills at a minimum of 25 words per minute, or possess a typing proficiency certification from the New Jersey Civil Service Commission or Judiciary.
  • Physical ability to perform work requiring climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, and reaching.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a legal or court environment.
