About the position

The Junior Backend Developer role at Lateral Insights LLC is focused on developing and implementing web-based Java applications to meet business requirements. The position requires a strong foundation in Java and related technologies, with an emphasis on Agile methodologies and collaboration within a hybrid work environment. The candidate will be responsible for resolving technical issues, performing debugging, and ensuring the quality of the code through testing and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement web-based Java applications to support business requirements.
• Follow approved Agile life cycle methodologies and create design documents.
• Perform program coding and resolve technical issues through debugging and research.
• Document technical specifics and technical design.
• Design and perform unit testing, functional testing, and code reviews.
• Support production issues and provide resolution.
• Work with relational databases and perform database design tasks.

Requirements

• Minimum 4+ years of experience in Java development without internships, physically located in the US.
• Strong knowledge of Java programming language and related technologies like J2EE, JSP, Servlets, JDBC, Spring, SpringBoot, JPA, Web Services (REST, SOAP), XSLT, XML, JSON.
• Experience with GIT version control system and familiarity with code repository hosting services such as GitHub and BitBucket.
• Strong experience with Maven build tool and modern IDEs such as VS Code or IntelliJ.
• Experience with relational databases and queries, including database design tasks.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence or other project/issue tracking software.
• Experience with front-end languages and frameworks such as HTML, JSP, JavaScript, jQuery, and CSS.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines/tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
• Experience with Python programming language and modern frontend frameworks like React, Ember, Angular, Bootstrap.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
