About the position

As a Junior Civil Engineer in the Water Services group at CDM Smith, you will work under direct supervision to create engineering designs of basic to moderate complexity. Your responsibilities will include site layout development, site grading and drainage, and performing hydraulics and hydrology calculations. You will also be involved in designing water distribution systems, collection systems, storage tanks, impoundments, foundation designs, and stormwater infrastructure and treatment. Occasionally, you may work on single-story structures as well. In this role, you will review draft designs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and ensure that all designs adhere to firm policies and practices. You will conduct site reviews and studies as necessary to align designs with location specifications and update design requirements as needed. Additionally, you will contribute to the firm's knowledge management by developing white papers and technical design documentation for new or special case designs and studies. You may also submit technical papers and designs for publication in technical journals and create presentation materials for conferences. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 1 year of related experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles of design.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
