This position is for a Junior Database Administrator (DBA) specializing in Sybase and SQL Server, expected to work 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday, with two days required on-site. The role includes a rotation for on-call duties during the weekend, specifically from Saturday morning to Monday morning, which the candidate may be required to assist with after an initial learning period. Overtime and weekend work are rare and must be pre-approved by the customer, as this position generally involves scheduled projects. The technical environment is predominantly based on Sybase, with a transition planned to a pure SQL Server setup within approximately three years. The current Sybase environment operates on Solaris within an X86 hardware setup on the local network, while the SQL Server environment consists of mixed versions running on various Windows Server versions, with an upcoming project to update these versions. This environment includes both on-premises servers and those hosted in Azure. The selected candidate will need to have experience with both Sybase and SQL Server to assist in the ongoing migration project. The primary goal of this position is to provide additional support for the Sybase environment. The ideal candidate will have a Unix background, particularly in running and developing CRON jobs, and command line experience. Familiarity with Sybase ASE is essential, even at a junior DBA level. The candidate will assist with tasks that occur during after-hours implementations, helping to reduce the workload on senior DBAs. Additionally, the role will involve assisting with weekly data fixes that occur on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as supporting SQL Server DBAs by taking on some of their responsibilities. Experience with Windows Servers, SQL Server, clusters, and Disaster Recovery in development, test, and production environments is also required. A strong preference is given to candidates with experience in migrating from Sybase to SQL Server.
