About the position

The Junior Database Administrator is responsible for the backup, recovery, performance, availability, integrity, and disaster recovery of all databases and database systems. This role requires maintaining a close working relationship with all user departments and applying knowledge of commonly-used concepts and practices within the financial field.

Responsibilities

• Application Support for SQL Server Backup/DR/Replication/Restore of SQL Servers and Databases
• Security and hardening of SQL Server
• Patch Management and Updates to SQL Servers and Databases
• Review and Maintenance of daily SQL jobs
• Management of multiple IT projects
• Documenting internal support processes and procedures
• Working closely with all teams in technology on projects of all scopes, including complex and cross-functional efforts
• Applying scripting/programming skills to automate system related functions
• Working with Management to determine departmental priorities
• Engaging outside contractors with proper technical expertise when appropriate
• Ensuring timely completion of projects and deployments
• Providing on-call and after hours support as needed

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience with relational databases
• A solid understanding of Windows servers and networking
• Project management skills
• Bachelor's degree in technical field or related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of database design, TSQL and administration
• Knowledge of backup technologies/methods relating to databases
• Knowledge of monitoring products (SolarWinds, Idera, Redgate) is beneficial
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and with a team in a highly customer-focused environment
• Understanding of Systems (servers, storage, permissions, etc.) and problem-solving skills
