About the position

Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Junior DevOps Engineer to join our team in Pittsburgh, PA. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. As a Junior DevOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in fostering a collaborative culture among engineers, ensuring the delivery of quality software at a high rate of speed, which ultimately leads to delighted customers. In this position, you will be involved in several focus areas including continuous integration, test automation, continuous delivery, and cultural evolution towards a more collaborative and process-oriented environment. You will work closely with various stakeholders such as process compliance auditors, customers, software engineers, test engineers, and project teams to ensure that our processes and technologies are aligned with our goals. Our technology stack is dynamic and constantly evolving. Currently, we utilize tools such as Jenkins for CI/CD, git for version control, RTC and Azure DevOps for issue tracking, and Python and bash for automation tasks. Additionally, you will be involved in developing internal web applications using Django, and functional test automation using Squish and Selenium. The environments we support are primarily Linux-based, running C++ applications developed by our extended team. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation and management of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins.
  • Support the automation of testing processes using tools like Squish and Selenium.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to ensure process compliance and quality assurance.
  • Participate in the development of internal web applications using Django.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our technology stack and processes to enhance collaboration and efficiency.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide technical support.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with containerization solutions such as Docker and Podman.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies like VirtualBox and VMWare.
  • Knowledge of Python and bash scripting for automation tasks.
