About the position

SAIC is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to support an exciting Navy mission in our new state-of-the-art labs in Middletown, RI. This position is ideal for individuals seeking long-term career growth within a company that values work-life balance. As a Junior Electrical Engineer, you will be part of a collaborative team of engineers and support technicians working to bring a variety of electrical designs from the early concept stage all the way through fabrication. The local Middletown office supports automated test equipment design, printed circuit board design (PCB), cable design, and acoustic system design. Your support can vary from Research & Development to Production Support, tailoring both skills and interests to fill the role effectively. The work environment is flexible, allowing for both on-site and remote work. On-site work is conducted at 28 Jacome Way, Middletown, RI, and/or the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport. Flexible work schedule options are available, including a 9/80 schedule that allows for every other Friday off or a 4/10 schedule if desired. The management team is focused on enabling engineers to succeed and achieve long-term career goals, promoting leaders from within the programs. As part of the team, you will be integral in developing present and future leading-edge USN weapons systems capabilities. This role requires broad engineering skillsets, well-developed work habits, and an eagerness for solving engineering challenges. Your projects will include the design, documentation, and testing of a wide array of electrical and electronic systems in areas such as undersea defensive systems, torpedo test equipment, Automated Test Equipment (ATE), sonar electronics, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Design and test electronic systems for embedded underwater applications, custom data acquisition systems, and automated test hardware for land-based testing of naval systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans for new designs and document results.
  • Design and document systems and circuits using OrCAD, Eagle, Visio, Altium, or PADS.
  • Utilize powerful computer, software, and test equipment resources to enhance job effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary collaborative environment with engineers, logisticians, technicians, and draftsmen to ensure design meets requirements.
  • Review specifications, requirements, schematics, bill of materials, mechanical drawings, and test plans created by senior engineers for accuracy.
  • Create and review well-documented notes of design changes to maintain version control of drawings.
  • Troubleshoot both large-scale systems and individual system components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Must be able to obtain Active Secret Clearance and be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Familiarity/Experience in electronic design in power electronics, audio-band amplifiers and filtering, signal conditioning, and/or high-speed digital.
  • Schematic entry experience using OrCAD Capture or Eagle.
  • PCB design experience with Mentor Graphics PADS Layout, Cadence OrCAD PCB Designer, Altium, or Eagle.
  • Experience with MATLAB.
  • FPGA experience using Vivado for Xilinx hardware or Quartus for Intel products.
  • FPGA programming experience in VHDL and/or Verilog for functional design and simulation.
  • Familiarity with National Instruments products including PXI, LabView, or CVI.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in debugging software for analog & digital electronic systems.
  • Knowledge of automated testing processes and methodologies.
