About the position

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Junior Electrical Hardware Design Engineer to join a diverse team dedicated to creating unique solutions for complex problems. This position is based in Huntsville, AL, and is part of the Electrical Systems Department, which focuses on advanced hardware products. The ideal candidate will thrive in a learning environment that encourages leadership and technical growth. As a design engineer, the selected individual will work closely with electronics integrated into a variety of aerospace and military systems, including manned and unmanned ground and air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems. The Junior Electrical Hardware Design Engineer will be expected to execute in a fast-paced, small team environment through all phases of the product life cycle, from concept development and detailed design to manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support. Responsibilities will include architecting, implementing, and testing electronic circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) that encompass power supply, mixed-signal, FPGA, and microcontroller designs. The role also requires skills in signal integrity analysis, power distribution network design, and basic VHDL proficiency, along with experience in technical trade studies and evaluation of technology improvements. Collaboration is key in this role, as the engineer will actively partner with other engineers, project managers, technicians, and customers to develop solutions that address a diverse set of requirements. Additionally, the engineer will support the resolution of technical issues discovered during the manufacture and testing of deliverable products, which includes troubleshooting board-level issues, assessing failures for root cause, and identifying corrective actions. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong foundation in engineering principles and a passion for problem-solving in a collaborative environment.
