About the position

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Junior Electrical Hardware Design Engineer to join a diverse team dedicated to creating unique solutions for complex problems. The company operates across the United States, providing responsive and cost-effective engineering, scientific, and IT solutions in various fields including defense, space, cyber, and commercial sectors. The ideal candidate will thrive in a learning environment that encourages both leadership and technical growth. The Electrical Systems Department, which focuses on design, consists of engineers who specialize in advanced hardware products. The selected individual will serve as a design engineer with varied technical interests and demonstrated engineering skills. A self-starter, the candidate must have experience working with interdisciplinary teams to tackle challenging technical problems. The engineer will closely collaborate with electronics integrated into a wide range of aerospace and military systems, including manned and unmanned ground and air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems. The role requires executing tasks in a fast-paced, small team environment throughout all phases of the product life cycle, from concept development and detailed design to manufacturing, qualification testing, and post-delivery support. Key responsibilities include architecting, implementing, and testing printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) that encompass power supply, mixed-signal, FPGA, and Microcontroller designs. Additional skills such as signal integrity analysis, power distribution network design, basic VHDL proficiency, and experience with technical trade studies and technology evaluations are advantageous. The engineer is also expected to actively partner with other engineers, project managers, technicians, and customers to develop solutions that meet a diverse set of requirements. Furthermore, the engineer will support the resolution of technical issues that arise during the manufacture and testing of deliverable products, which includes troubleshooting board-level issues, assessing failures for root cause, and identifying corrective actions. The ideal candidate will excel in a learning environment that fosters leadership and technical growth.
