About the position

The Junior Financial Analyst at Brooklyn Law School is a full-time, exempt position that plays a crucial role in supporting the Finance team and contributing to the institution's operational success. This role is designed for entry-level candidates eager to develop their financial analysis skills, with opportunities to engage in budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and reporting. The position offers hands-on experience in a vibrant educational environment committed to social justice and the training of future lawyers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in driving the annual Budget Development process with leadership.
  • Develop and maintain financial models and organizational budgets.
  • Monitor and prepare reports on budget variance (budget to actuals) and perform trend analysis.
  • Support long-term financial planning and analyze market trends to inform decision-making.
  • Assist the Director in communicating financial plans and results to senior leaders and board members.
  • Prepare budgets and reports for extramural funding from grantors and recommend changes to indirect cost policy as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes.
  • Provide direct support to unit leadership with budget management.
  • Conduct ad-hoc special projects as needed.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports (monthly, quarterly, etc.) for management and senior leadership.
  • Perform, analyze, and review pre- and post-payroll bi-weekly runs for accuracy and consistency with budget.
  • Manage analysis and reporting for gifts and bequests, including activity related to Student Organizations.
  • Assist with the completion of external financial survey requests.
  • Prepare various journal entries as needed.
  • Assist with audit-related schedules and documentation as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Colleague a plus) and database management.
  • Strong Excel skills, including data analysis and complex formula creation.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Aptitude for understanding information system structures and building reports.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal correspondence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Higher Education or Not-for-Profit sectors preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP as it relates to Not-for-Profits or Higher Education is beneficial.
