About the position

Firebird AST is seeking a Junior Financial Operations Research Analyst to support the Homeland Security Investigations' (HSI) Financial Crimes Unit (FCU) in Crystal City, VA. This position is crucial in assisting with financial investigations and operational research, focusing on analyzing financial crime data and developing solutions to complex problems. The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting financial investigations and/or forensic accounting, demonstrating a solid understanding of financial fraud schemes, money laundering, and other financial crime typologies. The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, as the analyst will be responsible for developing briefings, talking points, and outreach materials to support communications with HSI leadership. In this hybrid role, the analyst will be required to work both in the office and remotely, with some travel expected. The responsibilities include drafting leadership announcements, whitepapers, and PowerPoint presentations about key program releases and technical updates. The analyst will also assist in translating technical updates and requirements to ensure that end-users understand the benefits and impacts on their workflows. Additionally, the role involves developing communications to inform Special Agents about new techniques criminals are employing to further their activities. The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related discipline and have at least one year of proven experience in financial investigations, briefing, operational research, and report writing. A current passport is required as travel may be necessary both within the Continental U.S. (CONUS) and outside (OCONUS).

Responsibilities

  • Support financial investigations and conduct operational research and analysis.
  • Analyze financial crime data and develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of financial fraud schemes, money laundering, and other financial crime typologies.
  • Develop briefings, talking points, and outreach materials.
  • Support communications with HSI leadership with briefings and reports to communicate outcomes and findings.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 1 year of proven experience in conducting financial investigations, briefing, operational research, and writing reports.
  • Experience with forensic accounting.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Finance or a related discipline.
  • Current passport; some travel may be required CONUS and OCONUS.
