About the position

The Junior Government Healthcare Actuary position at Mercer involves working within the Government Human Services Consulting team to provide actuarial and quantitative analysis for healthcare programs. The role is hybrid, requiring at least three days a week in the office, and focuses on transforming programs for vulnerable populations through data-driven insights and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an actuary on complex actuarial and quantitative analysis projects
  • Perform increasingly complex analyses and cost projections using or modifying existing pricing models
  • Prepare reports of data trend analyses to summarize findings and recommend strategies to clients
  • Gather, organize, test, and review client or vendor data for accuracy and validity, identifying discrepancies.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree
  • 3+ years minimum health actuarial experience
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a demanding work environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Medicaid actuarial experience (any state program, health insurer, or Federal Agency)
  • Actuarial credentials (ASA, FSA, MAAA)
  • Experience related to health plan analysis or capitated rate development.
