About the position

The Junior Graphic Designer position at Jackson State University is a collaborative role within the University Communications Department, focusing on the development and design of print and digital materials. The role requires creativity and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, supporting various university initiatives through effective visual communication. Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary for events or urgent projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and design of print and digital materials, including brochures, posters, social media graphics, web elements, and event collateral.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and other team members to ensure cohesive visual branding across all projects.
  • Support in the preparation of artwork for production, including file formatting and quality checks.
  • Assist with photo editing, retouching, and visual adjustments to maintain brand consistency.
  • Create designs for university events, internal communications, and marketing campaigns.
  • Work with university stakeholders to understand project goals and deliver visually effective solutions.
  • Stay updated with design trends, tools, and software advancements to ensure the University's visual content remains contemporary.
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions for creative campaigns and marketing initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Creative Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Canva template creations for university stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and other design tools.
  • Basic understanding of web design is a plus.
  • Strong creative and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Prior experience in a higher educational environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic understanding of web design.
