About the position

The Junior High Teacher - Science position at Lincoln Jr. High School is designed to facilitate student success and growth in both academic and interpersonal skills. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher will implement district-approved curriculum, document teaching and student progress, and address the specific educational needs of individual students. The role requires creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment while providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. The teacher will develop and administer a junior high school curriculum that aligns with school district goals and objectives. This includes promoting a classroom environment conducive to individualized and small group instruction, developing lesson plans and instructional materials, and translating these plans into effective learning experiences. Ongoing assessment of student learning is crucial, and the teacher will modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including those with special needs. Additionally, the teacher will instruct students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters as specified by applicable laws and administrative regulations. Professional development is an essential aspect of this position, as the teacher is expected to continue acquiring knowledge and stay updated on current developments in the educational field through seminars, workshops, and research. The teacher will also maintain accurate records for grading and reporting student activities, encourage parental involvement, and ensure effective communication with students and parents. Furthermore, the teacher will supervise students during activities outside the classroom and administer standardized tests as required by the district.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer junior high school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs.
  • Instruct students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.
  • Coordinate with other professional staff members to evaluate and assess curriculum.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment.
  • Supervise students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.

Requirements

  • Arkansas State Certification as a Teacher.
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of junior high school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level is a plus.
