About the position

The Junior Human Rights and Civil Society Research Analyst I will focus on monitoring and researching issues related to religious freedom and civil society within specific geographic or thematic areas. This role involves compiling progress reports, providing insights for policy recommendations, and collaborating with U.S. government agencies and international partners. The position requires an active Secret clearance and includes periodic travel.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor abuses of religious freedom and positive developments related to faith actor engagement.
  • Review information from media sources, NGOs, and classified reporting channels.
  • Travel periodically to assigned countries/regions for information gathering and monitoring.
  • Conduct research and prepare reports on actions of foreign government officials regarding religious freedom violations.
  • Compile comprehensive progress reports and summaries for the Report to Congress on International Religious Freedom.
  • Analyze religious freedom-related developments in assigned areas and brief officials on implications.
  • Draft and edit written products related to human rights and religious freedom.
  • Respond to information requests from the U.S. Department of State and other agencies.
  • Help compile project results and develop strategic outreach plans.
  • Participate in training exercises and briefings on religious freedom best practices.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with policy research and analysis in international relations/affairs.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding human rights and religious freedom.
  • Familiarity with various religious traditions and dynamics.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software.
  • Knowledge of research and analytical methods to validate and interpret information.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments with tight deadlines.
  • Sound judgment and strong interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in rights advocacy and social integration through interreligious cooperation.
  • Knowledge of international relations principles and concepts.
