About the position

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking a Junior Identity & Access Management Analyst to join their Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting the university's identity and access management solutions. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to define IAM requirements and develop a framework that meets the needs of university stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage identity and access management (IAM) solutions.
  • Integrate IAM with enterprise systems including single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), and directory services (LDAP).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, assess risks, and define IAM strategies and policies.
  • Develop and maintain IAM documentation, including architecture diagrams, process workflows, and technical specifications.
  • Configure and customize IAM platforms to meet business needs and integrate with existing systems and applications.
  • Monitor IAM systems for performance, availability, and security vulnerabilities, and implement remediation measures as needed.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in identity and access management and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders and assist with troubleshooting IAM-related issues.

Requirements

  • Prefer Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Familiarity with SQL queries.
  • Understanding of identity and access management principles, protocols, and standards, including authentication, authorization, and directory services.
  • Experience with LDAP, Active Directory, or other directory services.
  • Scripting skills in one or more languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, BASH).
  • Experience in Windows and/or Linux server administration.
  • Familiarity with team communication, collaboration, and video conferencing tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Zoom, Cisco WebEx).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively perform independently and as part of a team in distributed, remote, and in-person environments, with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented, with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in Identity and Access management.
  • Experience working with Fischer Identity.
  • Experience with managing Microsoft Entra, 365, Teams.
  • Experience with creation and management of Group Policy.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS).
  • Working knowledge of source code management systems (e.g., Git, Mercurial, Subversion).
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure platforms (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Current professional certification(s) preferred in one or more of SANS, Microsoft Azure, CISSP.
