About the position

The Junior Landscape Designer / Project Manager role at Summerhill Landscapes is designed to support the design and project management team within the Landscape Construction department. This position involves both design and project management responsibilities, including conceptual landscape design, site evaluations, and ensuring compliance with project specifications. The role is crucial for maintaining effective communication with team members and clients, as well as managing project budgets and timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide weekly reports to the Senior Landscape Designer.
  • Conduct conceptual landscape design using AutoCAD.
  • Perform site evaluations, measurements, and prepare graphic representations or drawings of proposed plans or designs.
  • Assist Landscape Designers in managing site plans and site evaluations, ensuring correct implementation on-site.
  • Select and arrange plants for design projects.
  • Prepare presentations for client meetings and develop site plans, specifications, or cost estimates for landscape projects.
  • Analyze data on conditions such as site location, drainage, or structure location for landscaping plans.
  • Assist in developing marketing materials and proposals to generate new work opportunities.
  • Inspect landscape work to ensure compliance with specifications and evaluate the quality of materials.
  • Review construction documents and specifications to create accurate estimates.
  • Communicate and follow-up with landscape architects, designers, and builders regarding construction drawings.
  • Create construction budgets detailing total costs for approved landscape jobs prior to commencement.
  • Maintain up-to-date construction plans for each assigned job and ensure field project managers have matching sets.
  • Request and review subcontractor and vendor quotes for various work items.
  • Communicate with Purchasing departments on materials costings and create vendor markups from historic data.
  • Delegate tasks to the Landscape construction office team.
  • Perform site inventories, analyses, and take field measurements as needed.
  • Create Landscape Management Reports and minutes for site meetings.
  • Maintain and record 'as-builts' for projects.
  • Verify contract specifications are being met.
  • Manage and drive the punch list process to ensure thorough completion of each assigned job.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and design programs such as AutoCAD.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
