About the position

The Junior Network and Systems Administrator will play a crucial role in supporting and maintaining the network and data infrastructure of Menlo Park. This position involves managing hardware, operating systems, and applications, ensuring the smooth operation of network firewalls, routers, switches, and cybersecurity measures. The administrator will provide technical support to city staff, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and assist in deploying enterprise solutions, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the city's IT services.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain network and data infrastructure including hardware and operating systems.
  • Manage network firewalls, routers, switches, and cybersecurity measures.
  • Administer the e-mail system and provide technical support to City staff.
  • Interact with users to deploy and troubleshoot complex technical problems.
  • Test and roll out enterprise solutions.
  • Provide general desktop support to ensure customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, information technology, business administration or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in a role responsible for supporting a broad range of network and datacenter infrastructure, including business process improvement and application administration.
  • Possession of industry certification (Cisco, VMWare, Microsoft, Nutanix, Security, Virtualization, or a closely related certification) is highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with network devices (routers, switches, firewalls).
  • Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux).
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies.
