About the position

As a Junior Network Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of network systems that support Army formations and training globally. Your primary responsibilities will include managing, monitoring, and enhancing both local and wide area network systems. This involves planning and designing network layouts, evaluating and selecting appropriate operating systems and protocol suites, and upgrading communications media using various network devices such as concentrators and bridges. You will also be tasked with resolving interoperability issues to ensure seamless operations across all platforms, conducting performance testing, and maintaining comprehensive documentation of network configurations and changes. In this position, you will be expected to provide input on network acquisitions and design layouts as needed. Your technical skills will be essential in troubleshooting connectivity issues and ensuring that the network infrastructure meets the evolving needs of the organization. You will also be responsible for the physical installation and maintenance of networking equipment, including the installation and updates of network device operating systems and baseline configurations. Your ability to document and maintain technical information will be critical in supporting the overall network administration and configuration management processes. This role requires a proactive approach to network management, as you will need to travel occasionally to support work activities, such as installations. Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor, and enhance local and wide area network systems.
  • Plan and design network layouts, evaluating and selecting operating systems and protocol suites.
  • Upgrade communications media using concentrators, bridges, and other network devices.
  • Resolve interoperability problems to ensure operations across all platforms.
  • Conduct performance testing and maintain documentation of network configurations.
  • Administer networks and manage configuration changes.
  • Provide input on acquisitions and design layouts as requested.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in establishing, administering, troubleshooting, and documenting network connectivity.
  • Experience with the physical installation and maintenance of networking equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic and industry standard IP network topologies.
  • Ability to document, edit, and maintain technical information for network systems documentation.
  • Ability to travel to support work activities, such as installations.
  • Top Secret clearance required.
  • High School diploma or GED.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting lifecycle replacement of networking components and appliances.
  • Knowledge of existing DoD network services or network implementations.
  • Knowledge of Cisco and firewall hardware.
  • Excellent comprehension and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • CCNA Certification.
