The Junior Network Engineer at Florida International University (FIU) plays a crucial role in supporting the university's UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) infrastructure. This position involves evaluating and analyzing the UPS systems, ensuring their proper installation, monitoring, management, and troubleshooting. The engineer will maintain an inventory of hardware, manage ordering processes, and keep documentation updated to reflect the current state of the UPS infrastructure. The role requires a focus on technological requirements and business continuity across all FIU locations, ensuring that the UPS systems are functioning optimally to support the university's operations. In addition to UPS management, the Junior Network Engineer will monitor and maintain the UPS infrastructure, responding to power and temperature alerts, managing battery replacements, and performing software upgrades as necessary. The engineer will also handle service requests related to UPS issues, providing meaningful updates to end users and ensuring detailed documentation of all actions taken. This includes maintaining an accurate inventory of UPS and battery equipment, overseeing the ordering, receiving, and disposal processes, and updating configuration templates for security compliance and event logging. The position also requires the engineer to stay informed about new UPS technologies and related software applications. The Junior Network Engineer will assist in the day-to-day operations of FIU's enterprise network and voice infrastructure, participate in the deployment, testing, and troubleshooting of ENS (Enterprise Network Services) devices, and be part of an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support. In emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other university emergencies, the engineer is expected to report to work as needed, demonstrating a commitment to the safety and operational continuity of the university.
