About the position

The Junior Programmer position at Columbia University Medical Center is a full-time role within the Healthcare Innovations Research and Evaluation (HIRE) program. The Junior Programmer will report directly to the Director and will be involved in various aspects of the HIRE program, which focuses on innovative healthcare solutions and evaluations. In this position, the Junior Programmer will support the day-to-day functions of the HIRE group, which includes performing data analysis using programming languages such as R and Python. The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining databases to ensure their integrity and usability, which is crucial for the success of ongoing research projects. Additionally, the Junior Programmer will assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and contribute to grant writing efforts, thereby playing a vital role in the dissemination of research findings and securing funding for future projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong quantitative skills and demonstrate critical thinking abilities. They should be a creative problem solver who can work independently while also being an effective team player. Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day functions of the HIRE group
  • Perform data analysis using R, Python, and other coding languages

Requirements

  • Two years of training in computer sciences at college or technical school or equivalent and at least six months experience
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Critical thinking and creative problem solver with ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Well-organized, self-starter needed with strong attention to details and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages with preference given to R, Python and/or C++
  • Experience in modeling or statistics or computer coding
  • Experience in programming, scientific analyses, and publication
