About the position

The Junior Research Scientist / Program Assistant for Membership & Outreach at Scholars at Risk (SAR) plays a crucial role in expanding the organization's network by identifying and recruiting new institutional members. This position requires strong research and communication skills to effectively engage with universities and academic associations, ensuring the growth and retention of SAR's membership. The role involves developing outreach strategies, managing membership campaigns, and collaborating with various stakeholders to promote SAR's mission of protecting scholars and advancing higher education values.

Responsibilities

• Identify and recruit universities, colleges, academic associations, and partner networks to grow the SAR network (70%)
• Develop and manage membership outreach campaigns through letters, emails, calls, and events
• Respond to queries from prospective members and develop fluency in SAR's work
• Research and deliver presentations on SAR network opportunities
• Draft and circulate materials for prospective members, including program updates and event notifications
• Assist in renewing current and inactive memberships by nurturing relationships with key institutional leadership (30%)
• Develop annual appreciation campaigns for members and work with national SAR sections on recognition campaigns

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree required
• Exceptional research, writing, and editorial skills
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Previous membership and outreach experience, particularly in lead generation and prospecting

Nice-to-haves

• Coursework or experience in communications, human rights, education, international studies, non-profit management, or accounting
• Fluency in additional languages, particularly Spanish and/or German
