About the position

The Junior Research Systems Administrator will support the Bioinformatics Group's research computational infrastructure, focusing on Linux and Windows server administration, enterprise data storage, and web server management. The role emphasizes IT security awareness and requires the administrator to perform regular updates and backups while protecting research data. Although not an on-call position, the administrator must be available for critical issues outside regular hours. Responsibilities also include triaging support tickets and assisting users promptly.

Responsibilities

• Support the Bioinformatics Group's research computational infrastructure.
• Administer Linux and Windows servers.
• Manage enterprise data storage systems.
• Oversee web server administration.
• Perform regular updates of storage and virtualization systems.
• Maintain SLURM cluster systems and IT support ticketing systems.
• Ensure system backups and protect research data.
• Triage support tickets and provide timely assistance to users.
• Address critical issues outside of regular working hours when necessary.

Requirements

• Master's degree with 1 year of IT work experience, or Bachelor's degree with 2 years of IT work experience, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
• Experience in enterprise virtualization system administration.
• Proficiency in Linux server administration.
• Experience with web server administration.
• Knowledge of Windows server administration in an Active Directory domain.
• Experience in enterprise data storage system administration.
• Familiarity with cloud computing and storage administration.
• Knowledge of commodity server class hardware.
• Experience in computing cluster system administration.
• Familiarity with container system administration.
