About the position

ECS Federal is seeking a Junior Software Developer to join our team in O'Fallon, IL. This position is contingent upon additional funding and involves working on the GATES application, which is critical for providing cargo and passenger manifesting and in-transit visibility for the Department of Defense (DoD). The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Java and experience in developing web applications. As a Junior Software Developer, you will be expected to contribute to various complex assignments that require originality and innovation in problem-solving. You will work closely with developers and systems administrators to integrate solutions and products for our government customers. Your primary responsibilities will include delivering DevSecOps pipeline solutions and proof of concepts for Continuous Integration, Continuous Development, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Testing, Continuous Security, and Continuous Monitoring. You will also be responsible for driving solutions that meet the technical, financial, and business requirements of our customers while supporting a legacy system that is in the process of modernization and is hosted in the cloud. This role requires a hands-on approach and the ability to operate with a significant degree of autonomy in developing methodologies and presenting solutions to complex problems. In this role, you will contribute to deliverables and performance metrics, ensuring that the solutions you develop align with the overall goals of the ECS team. You will also have the opportunity to mentor and coach intermediate and junior developers, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will need to report progress, challenges, and risks to the development manager.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support the GATES application for the DoD.
  • Deliver DevSecOps pipeline solutions and proof of concepts.
  • Integrate solutions and products for government customers.
  • Drive solutions that meet technical, financial, and business requirements.
  • Support modernization of legacy systems hosted in the cloud.
  • Contribute to deliverables and performance metrics.
  • Mentor and coach junior developers on the team.
  • Report progress, challenges, and risks to the development manager.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Java, HTML5 technologies, Angular, Spring, RHEL, SQL, JavaScript, XML.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevSecOps processes.
  • Security + Certification or ability to obtain certification immediately after employment.
  • Strong understanding of test-driven development and test automation.
  • Ability to manage workloads and create program specifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of DoD transportation data and business practices.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Familiarity with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git.
  • Knowledge of build and deployment orchestration tools like Jenkins.
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform.
  • Familiarity with testing tools/frameworks like Junit, Selenium, Cucumber, or Cypress.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $55,000 - $80,000.
