About the position

Leidos is seeking a Junior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team in Walled Lake, MI. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high voltage utility Civil Substation projects, working alongside other electric utility disciplines. As a core team member, you will play a vital role in the design and development of bid and construction packages for substation projects. In this role, you will be responsible for performing design calculations and developing construction-grade engineering design drawings under the supervision of a licensed civil engineer. You will also have the opportunity to engage in site visits to client substation facilities and participate in occasional travel for client meetings and industry-related events. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background in civil and structural engineering, with a focus on the design of steel and concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundations. Responsibilities

  • Perform design calculations for civil/structural components of substation projects.
  • Develop construction-grade engineering design drawings under supervision.
  • Conduct site visits to client substation facilities as required.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control and safe work practices.
  • Maintain adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
  • Collaborate with a design team of engineers, designers, and drafting technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil-Structural Engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Mathcad software.
  • Familiarity with STAAD.Pro, FAD, SAFE, SAG10, and LPile software preferred.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Microstation, and Civil 3D software preferred.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with substation structure design and foundation design.
  • Knowledge of oil spill containment design and retaining wall design.
  • Experience in site development and design of masonry control shelters.
