About the position

The Junior System Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining local and wide area networks, operating systems, and both physical and virtual servers. This role involves system monitoring, ensuring the integrity and availability of hardware and network resources, and providing technical support to users. The position requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to resolve technical issues efficiently, with a focus on documentation and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain LAN and WAN networks, operating systems, and servers.
  • Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware and network resources.
  • Review system and application logs and verify the completion of scheduled jobs, including backups.
  • Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses.
  • Respond to customer requests for technical support via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Document, track, and monitor technical problems to ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments in a Linux environment.
  • Modify, maintain, and run Ansible Playbooks.
  • Manage user accounts and access rights using a centralized access solution.
  • Create and maintain Windows 10/11 images ensuring hardware compatibility.
  • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or network problems.
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications and virus protection software.
  • Operate master consoles to monitor system performance and coordinate network access.
  • Maintain meeting spaces and provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Provide escalation support for Tier 2 incident resolution.
  • Monitor network performance and recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Coordinate scheduled downtimes with customer representatives and operations leads.
  • Plan and implement network security measures to protect data and systems.
  • Analyze equipment performance records for repair or replacement needs.
  • Confer with network users about solutions to existing system problems.
  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience performing system administration work.
  • 1-3 years of Help Desk Tier II onsite and remote support experience in a medium to large networked environment.
  • Linux experience.
  • Knowledge of ticketing systems.
  • Knowledge of computer imaging.
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP).
  • Familiarity with basic Bash scripting.
  • Excellent customer service skills, both oral and written.
  • Exposure to virtualization technologies (RHV, VMware, or Citrix).

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of JIRA ticketing system.
  • Knowledge of BigFix computer imaging.
  • Knowledge of Trellix ePolicy Orchestrator computer imaging.
  • ITIL v3 Foundations certification.
  • Red Hat Certification (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE, LPIC 1-3).
  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite and Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Experience with Red Hat Virtualization or Virtualization on Red Hat Openshift.
  • Experience with HCL Bigfix and Tenable Nessus.
  • CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+.
